Help me out! Anybody is welcome to add their own castle if it's not listed here (but give me some time to finish entering all my own information to the data base)Menus: List All | Search | Add/Edit
This web site now has a data base of British castles. Please bear with me while I'm in the process of filling in all the entries (could take a while). In the meantime, you are welcome to check it out, even add your own entries. Eventually, nearly every English, Welsh, and Scottish castle that has been listed in books will be on this data base, whether or not I have visited it or have a web page about it. Some places that are called 'Castle' that are just country houses or Victorian follies (like Alton Towers) will not be listed, nor will unimportant remains that have been totally destroyed except for a mound or an embankment (like Brimpsfield), even if they have an interesting history (with exceptions like Baynard's Castle in London). 1/10/2001: created data base, and started the letter A for England and Wales (Scotland will be a separate project)
1/13/2001: letter A finished for England and Wales, B halfway complete for England (note: C is going to be a bitch)
1/30/2001: completed England and Wales through the letter D
2/28/2001: through letters A-G (this is a very tedious business, over 200 entries so far!)
3/22/2001: H-K, ho hum, just wait for the S's and T's!.
7/31/2001: L-N, after a long hiatus. One of these days...
6/25/2002: 0-R, after an even longer hiatus...
2/17/2005: Finished Wales... (Three year wait!) England will be done soon, but then there is all of Scotland to tackle.
